It quickly became an underground sensation, captivating the card magicians of the day—yep, even Dai Vernon couldn’t resist its allure!

So, what’s all the fuss about? It’s all about Walter Scott. In the summer of 1930, Scott and McGuire took a jaunt to New York City for a super-secret show that showcased what is arguably the finest sleight of hand ever performed! Imagine this: Scott let the other magicians shuffle their own decks, and still managed to deal winning hands like it was child’s play. Those lucky enough to witness this jaw-dropping spectacle were left completely bewildered. Cardini, one of the few invited to the show, famously quipped, “Scott is 500 years ahead of Erdnase!” After that, these two became inseparable pals, with Cardini eager to soak up Scott’s wisdom. This friendship prompted Eddie McGuire to document Scott’s genius in a series of letters to Cardini. Some of these letters, but not all, were later gathered by McGuire and offered to a select few magicians who had heard tales of the legendary Walter Scott. The editions McGuire sold were rather barebones—no illustrations and not all the juicy details sent to Cardini. However, Cardini’s copy was a treasure trove, featuring hand-drawn illustrations and a never-before-published section addressing Dai Vernon’s curious queries. To top it off, Cardini, an amateur photographer, convinced Scott to pose for some snaps of his incredible work. These photos, believed to be for Cardini’s eyes only, make their debut here, adding a touch of accessibility to this magical tome.

Now, you can get your hands on this never-before-published typescript, complete with extra materials and Cardini’s original 1930s photographs. We’ve also thrown in a bunch of other articles, most of which have never seen the light of day, plus candid shots of Scott and his pals in private sessions—also new to print. We’ve gone the extra mile to make this a critical edition, thanks to Lori Pieper and Maxwell Pritchard, who meticulously combed through various known typescripts and published versions, leaving over 1300 critical notes that’ll help you decipher what makes this version different from the others out there (and trust me, there are quite a few!).

This splendid book was crafted by Stephen Minch, printed on archival natural stock in glorious full colour, and features sewn signatures. We opted for an 8 1/2 x 11' format to make it easy for you to lay the book flat whilst you’re deep in study. Plus, we’ve showcased Cardini’s step-by-step photos on two fold-out pages so you can see everything at once and have it handy while you read. The whole thing is wrapped in a lovely leather-like material, complete with a blind burnish and foil stamping. And, yes, we even added a ribbon to help you keep your place—because we know how easy it is to get lost in all this magic!

Don’t miss out on what we reckon is going to be the most complete and stunning edition of this work ever printed.
