For the very first time, A Strenuous Career: The Personal Challenge and Advertisement Scrapbook of Harry Houdini hands you a stunning, full-colour replica of one of the most important keepsakes from the life of the world’s foremost escape artist. This isn’t just any old scrapbook; it’s one of the biggest and most significant ones Houdini ever put together (and let’s face it, he had a flair for the dramatic!). Every single page is reproduced straight from Houdini’s own working scrapbook—just as he assembled it—capturing the energy, ambition, and relentless drive that made him who he was.
Within these pages, you’ll witness the daft challenges Houdini took on from all corners of the globe... the cheeky advertisements that drew in crowds to his performances. The meticulously preserved bits and bobs reveal exactly how Houdini built his legend in real time. This isn’t history through someone else’s rose-tinted glasses—it’s history as Houdini lived it!
Feel the tension as authorities slap handcuffs and leg irons on him, or chuck him into the darkest jail cells (cheers for the hospitality!).
Sense the danger as he’s sealed into wooden crates or water-filled containers, sinking to the bottom of murky rivers (you know, just your average Tuesday!).
Live the thrill of being strapped into straitjackets and padded suits that couldn’t hold him (not that he’d let them!).
Experience the pulse of a career built on risk, spectacle, and utterly insane mastery.
And now, for the first time, it can be yours!
Meticulously reproduced from the original scrapbook—thanks to Dr. Bruce J. Averbook's incredible historic archive in The Averbook Magic Art Museum and Library—this gem features over 160 premium, large-format colour pages, all snugly presented in a luxurious 9" x 12" hardbound edition with a rather posh slipcase. Every detail has been preserved to fully immerse you in Houdini's wild world.
