6 effects and 2 cheeky bonuses for anyone lucky enough to own a Pitata, Iarvel, or SB wristwatch with a remote control.

In recent years, we’ve seen a plethora of watches that are practically begging for the attention of magicians and mentalists. They’re a nifty little gadget—discreet, modern, and powerful—yet, let’s be honest, they’re a bit limited. At the end of the day, a watch tells time, nothing more. So, the inevitable question arises: what’s a magician supposed to do with it?

This book is my answer to that question. Over the last decade, I’ve gathered up all my ideas that have entertained audiences in close-up, walk-around, and stage settings.

Each effect stands on its own. I wouldn’t recommend performing several watch effects back-to-back (unless you fancy looking a bit dodgy). It’s your job to pick the right effect for the right moment.

All of these effects rely on the same trusty prop: a gimmicked watch with a remote control. If you’ve got one of these beauties, you’re in luck—you’ll be able to dive into everything this book offers. Some effects are quick and cheeky; others are a bit deeper and more personal. But they all share one common thread: using the same prop to craft different experiences.

Among the goodies, I’ve got an adaptation of the classic “Invisible Deck” for both close-up and stage; I’m sharing a Christmas tale I’ve performed over 200 times in my show, The Wish; a routine where borrowed items reveal an impossible choice; a divination tied to historical events; an interactive experience for multiple participants; and a whole lot more.

Now, let’s have a word about the Bonus section. It’s got two routines that need a slightly more elaborate setup. I kick things off with a simple version for your gimmicked watch, then follow up with a more advanced approach for those who want to stretch their legs a bit.

But it’s not just about the effects. You’ll also find insights on presentation, writing, and structure, ways to engage your audience, manage their attention, justify your choices, and work with simple technical limitations. These are handy tools you can sprinkle throughout your own repertoire.

In the appendix, I’ve taken a good look at the three most popular gimmicked watch models. I’ll spill my preferences and how I use this prop without making it obvious, whether I’m on stage or up close and personal.

And let’s be clear: I’m not here to complicate things unnecessarily. The methods are often straightforward and direct. What I’m really after is crafting a magical, impossible, and memorable moment around this tool and the theme of time.

If this book helps you turn a simple prop into a genuine magical experience for your audience, then I’ll consider it a job well done.
