What is Cemetery?
You’ve got thirteen cards featuring some legendary figures (think Kobe Bryant, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and the like). Each card sports a coffin-themed back, and they all nestle neatly inside a graveyard-style envelope. With this quirky combo, you’re all set to blend magic with a touch of artistry!
Self-Working Routines
CEMETERY PERFORMANCE: Picture this: a cemetery envelope is introduced as we chat about tombs and coffins lurking within. As we extract the cards, their coffin backs are on full display. We set the cards and the envelope aside for a tick, but not before teasing that these aren’t your run-of-the-mill coffins!
Once that’s out of the way, we bring in a regular deck of cards. It gets shuffled and cut with precision, allowing a spectator to nestle the graveyard envelope somewhere within. Then, we unveil the faces of the coffin-backed cards, revealing iconic personalities who’ve shuffled off this mortal coil.
After the roll call of the dearly departed, we shift our focus back to the deck, where the graveyard envelope is nestled. We spread the deck and pull out the envelope, revealing two cards that have been sandwiched in. The rest of the deck is left to chill, while we highlight the significance of the two cards.
And just when the audience thinks they’ve seen it all, we reveal that the personality cards have values on them too! We draw the two that match the previously shown cards, leaving the rest of the personalities face down, continuing their eternal slumber!
The magic kicks in when we explain that the cemetery has owners. We pull out a little piece of paper that was hanging out in the cemetery envelope, and to everyone’s shock... it’s got the names of the two randomly chosen personalities written on it! Talk about a plot twist!
To wrap things up, we show the face-down cards that bear the coffin backs, revealing that each coffin has a rose resting on it. But lo and behold, in the coffins of our chosen personalities, we find the cards drawn from the deck!
CEMETERY ELECTIONS PERFORMANCE:
This features ten cards of famous deceased figures and a prediction. One or two spectators can shuffle the cards (and they can shuffle them to oblivion if they fancy). We go through a process of discarding and selecting cards face down, completely transparent and free for the audience. They’ll be left reeling when they see the prediction match their choices!
