Taking inspiration from the classic trick Soft Soap, originally dreamt up in 1942 by Dr. Howard B. Kayton, George Iglesias has worked his magic (pun totally intended) to completely revamp this routine. He’s switched up the story, the props, and the method, creating a new, mind-boggling system that’ll have everyone scratching their heads. It’s a cheeky and captivating routine designed for kids, brimming with laughter and a sprinkle of chaos!
Effect:
The magician announces he’s just splashed out on a new portable washing machine. He then presents the laundry items: a red sock, a yellow tie with stains, and a white glove.
He pops the red sock inside, and as he fumbles with the machine’s instructions (which are mysteriously in a different language), he decides to wing it. He invites a child to hit the start button, and suddenly the box and the magician start to shake like they’re in a dance-off (it’s not a pretty sight). When he retrieves the red sock, it’s clean! But—surprise!—it’s now got more holes than Swiss cheese! Oh dear!
Not to be deterred, he moves on to the yellow tie. Another child presses the button, and the machine does its thing. But when the tie comes out, it’s shrunk down to a mini version! Oh, come on!
Finally, in goes the white glove. The button gets pressed one last time, and out comes the glove—sparkling clean! But wait for it: as he pulls it out, the kids erupt with laughter—it’s stretched to super, super long proportions!
At the end of this delightful debacle, all three items are completely examinable, and just when everyone thinks it’s over, the magician opens the box to reveal it’s empty!
