Here we have the delightful Densho (Blue) Playing Cards, the second brainchild of Card Experiment and Tokyo’s own Yosuke Ando, the talented graphic designer behind the Musha & Goketsu Playing Cards. Card Experiment is at it again, mixing the intricate and vibrant flair of traditional Japanese woodblock printing with a cheeky modern twist. Think of it as Japanese art having a bit of fun with a deck of cards.
Densho is all about showcasing popular Japanese folk tales, where semi-legendary heroes meet supernatural beings and fantastical creatures. These stories, much like folklore everywhere, pack a punch of wisdom that’s easy to digest (and perfect for kids who need a moral lesson or two). Through these enchanting tales, you’ll catch glimpses of timeless Japanese morals that have been passed down like heirlooms—because who doesn’t love a good story?
Now, let’s talk about the Densho tuck cases, crafted from premium quality paper stock by GMUND in Germany. We’ve gone all out with hot foil stamping and letter pressing in Hong Kong because why not? (We like to keep things classy).
Cards are printed by The United States Playing Card Company.
Produced by Card Experiment.
