Fire Book is a delightful little number in the realm of pyrotechnic magic. It makes for a cracking opener (or “Quickie” if you will) for any stage show — because who doesn’t love a bit of fire to kick things off?
Effect: The performer struts onto the stage clutching a hardbound book. He casually mentions that he was reading this riveting tome filled with scientific articles on global warming before the show (because that’s what all the cool kids are reading). He flicks through the pages, making it clear that they’re chock-full of dense text. Then he goes on about how rising temperatures are causing wildfires to rage through our forests. “If we don’t get our act together,” he warns, “the fire might just flare up here, there, and everywhere!” And just as he finishes that cheeky little sentence, the pages of the book spontaneously combust! (No, seriously — it’s not a trick of the lighting.) He snaps the book shut, extinguishing the flames, and quips that it’s quite a hot topic indeed! (See what he did there?)
