For ages, magicians have been tinkering with the idea of morphing an ordinary object into a playing card. And let’s be honest, every time it happens, spectators lose their minds.
It’s a classic that nails it every time. Take something they know, make it something utterly bonkers, and watch the magic unfold.
So, Craig Petty and Lloyd Barnes scratched their heads and asked themselves one simple question:
How can we crank this idea up a notch?
The answer? FUEL.
Picture this: a card is selected and signed. You shuffle it back into the deck while handing over a lighter you’ve been using all night to the spectator.
Then, the card disappears from the deck as you casually say...
"Wouldn't it be amazing if your card popped up UNDER the lighter in your hands..."
"What if it appeared INSIDE the lighter?
"How about if your card BECAME the lighter?"
Now, that’s a statement that makes zero sense. They’ve seen the lighter go into their hands, and they still FEEL it sitting there!
But when they open their hands, poof! The lighter is nowhere to be found. That lump of plastic and flint has magically turned into a wobbly piece of card stock, with a lighter printed on one side and their signature on the other.
This is FUEL.
We get it, you might be sceptical (we were too).
How on Earth does a spectator not notice the difference between a lighter and a piece of paper?
Watch the trailer.
It shows every single performance we filmed because, let’s face it, every reaction was pure gold! Not a single one hit the cutting room floor.
I walked into that filming questioning Craig and Lloyd’s sanity, but walked out a complete convert.
Oh, and here’s the kicker... Craig didn’t even use a real lighter for most of those performances!
No real lighter to juggle.
No awkward switcheroo.
No need to light anything beforehand to convince them it’s legit. To be fair, he does teach you how to switch a lighter in and out of play in the tutorial, but you’ll see from the trailer that it’s just not necessary.
So, what do you actually get with FUEL?
You’ll receive 40 fuel gimmicks, 20 big lighter gimmicks, and 20 mini lighter gimmicks.
Each gimmick is crafted to deliver different versions of the effect.
The big lighter is designed for the visual change. You hold the lighter in your hands, and they’re staring right at it until you choose to unfold it to reveal their signature.
The mini lighter? It’s built for the in the hands version. It goes straight into the spectator's hands, where they’re convinced they’re holding a lighter, until they open their hands to discover it’s their signed playing card.
Two completely different experiences, all stemming from one brilliantly simple idea:
A lighter becomes their signed card...
Craig Petty and Lloyd Barnes took a plot that already gets jaw-dropping reactions and somehow made the finale even hotter.
Your spectators see a lighter, and they’re convinced they’re holding nothing but a lighter.
Until they open their hands and uncover the impossible.
This is FUEL.
