Gimmick It Yourself is a project that’s been brewing in my mind for ages. These are tricks I’ve crafted to tackle specific problems I’ve faced over the years. The goal? To offer a multi-trick package that gives you more bang for your buck than a typical single-trick release. And boy, does this project deliver, with gimmicks that play nicely together, allowing for a variety of clean, effective routines.

So, what’s the scoop on Gimmick It Yourself?

Five DIY gimmicks that are not only budget-friendly but also effective, reliable, and easy to work with. Trust me, these little helpers have saved my bacon on more than one occasion during my performances. For instance, Enveload was born out of necessity when I found myself without my JOL wallet while stuck on a cruise ship for weeks. This nifty gimmick lets you load sealed envelopes with anything from borrowed items to signed cards. And then there’s SOS — a Ring Flight that’s as secure as your grandma’s secret cookie recipe, thanks to a little Duct Tape holding it to a Sharpie lid! SOS stands for Secured on Sharpie, and yes, it’s as clever as it sounds.

Now, let’s not drag this out. Here’s the lowdown on each gimmick and their magical powers:

Off Balance - This simple, easy-to-use gimmick adds an unexpected layer of magic to your performance. Use it to make pens, borrowed glasses, or even forks impossibly suspend on your finger. Super straightforward and all objects can be borrowed and examined right after. Perfect for those casual nights out with friends when you want to show off a bit.

SOS - Ring Flight is a classic, but let’s face it, it can be a bit nerve-wracking. This alternative offers peace of mind, as the spectator's ring is secured to a Sharpie clip with Duct Tape. Borrow a ring, make it vanish (no palming, hands completely empty), and then pull the Sharpie from your pocket to reveal the ring impossibly attached to it!

Stash - Your go-to holdout for playing cards (or anything card-related). It’s ridiculously easy to use; just load any card straight into this gimmick while your spectator shuffles. You can even use it to hold out gimmicked cards or small stacks. Originally designed to complement Daniel Madison’s Advocate, it gives you the clean hands you’ve always wanted before revealing that thought-of card.

Shadow Envelope - A straightforward prediction envelope. Hold it up to the light, and it’s clear something’s inside. Whether it’s a freely selected signed card or a thought-of word, when you open the envelope, voilà — there’s the spectator’s signed card or a business card with their word. And yes, once the item’s out, the envelope is shown completely empty.

Enveload - A quick, easy gimmick that can be whipped up in a minute for mere pennies, serving as a budget-friendly alternative to those pricey wallets with envelope load functions. You can load sealed envelopes with signed cards, rings, predictions, or anything that fits. It's the perfect solution when you find yourself in a tight spot.

ROUTINES TAUGHT

Along with all the gimmicks, I’ll guide you through several easy-to-perform, commercial routines. Here’s what you can expect from Gimmick It Yourself:

SOS - Full Jazz Style Routine - A complete routine where the ring vanishes and reappears multiple times before ending up secured on the Sharpie.

Enveload - Birthday Trick - A commercial Signed Card and Banknote to Envelope routine with a kicker finish. Perfect for any event.

Shadow - 'Any Word' Prediction - A streamlined prediction routine that’s super simple and works seamlessly with the Shadow Envelope.

Shadow Bluff - A bold, practically un-gimmicked way to create a Shadow Envelope that’s 100% examinable.

Bonus - Signed Card in Spectator's Wallet - An easy and straightforward Signed Card to Spectator's Wallet routine.

Stash - Super Simple 4 Ace Production - The most straightforward 4 Ace production you can imagine.

Stash - Your Card - A fiery card effect with a surprising finish.

Stash 3 Attempts - Watch as the spectator's three failed attempts to find their card turn out to be three perfect choices.

"LOVED Off-Balance. This goes straight into my everyday carry, as it doesn't take up any space and is a perfect trick to do in a casual situation.
"Don't really see myself using SOS, as I believe Ring Flight and Interlace have a better impact and are easier to perform, however both of them are quite expensive and this is a great alternative for someone who isn't willing to spend that money.
"Stash: Pretty cool concept that sparked a few ideas in my head, although I believe you need to have a certain style to pull this off, as I don't see myself using it while wearing a suit.
"Shadow Envelope: Hooohoho, this was cheeky, and I love it. So many possibilities.
"Enveload: Similar to SOS, I think this is a great alternative for someone who doesn't want to pay big bucks for a fancy wallet. Wish I saw this back when I started magic as a kid - I would have used the hell out of it.
"Overall, I think anyone who likes making gimmicks will find something in here, and the price makes it a no-brainer.
"Great stuff!"

FULL DISCLOSURE

Just a heads-up: if you picked up my Any Word PDF ages ago, you’ll find a brief mention of my first gimmicks for Enveload and Shadow in there. This release offers a much deeper dive into those gimmicks with various enhancements. Plus, the routine taught in Shadow is a streamlined version that requires no force. I wanted to put this in the blurb to keep it transparent with you all.
