Gimmick It Yourself is a brainchild I’ve been mulling over for ages. It’s packed with effects I’ve crafted to address those pesky magic problems we all encounter (yes, we've all been there!). The goal? To give you a multi-trick release that offers way more bang for your buck than a run-of-the-mill single-trick offering. These gimmicks work together like a well-oiled machine, allowing you to create some seriously clean and effective routines.

So, what’s Gimmick It Yourself all about?

5 DIY gimmicks that are cheap to whip up, reliable, and a doddle to use. Believe me, these tricks have saved my bacon more times than I can count. For instance, Enveload came to life when I found myself in a bit of a pickle, needing to load sealed envelopes with borrowed items (or signed cards, or anything that fits, really) after leaving my fancy wallet at home whilst working on a cruise ship. And don’t get me started on SOS – my Ring Flight alternative that’s completely secure, thanks to Duct Tape (yes, you read that right!). SOS stands for Secured on Sharpie, and it’s as clever as it sounds.

But enough of my rambling! Here’s the lowdown on the gimmicks and what they can do:

  • Off Balance - A no-fuss gimmick that adds an extra dash of ‘magic along the way’ to your performance. Use it to suspend pens, borrowed glasses, or even a fork on your outstretched finger. It’s ridiculously simple, and the best part? All borrowed objects can be examined right after. Perfect for when you’re enjoying a pint with mates this summer.
  • SOS - A classic Ring Flight that’ll put your mind at ease. No worries about mishaps here! Borrow a ring, make it vanish (no palming – hands can be shown completely empty), and then reveal it secured to a Sharpie clip with Duct Tape! Impressive, right?
  • Stash - This nifty holdout for playing cards (or any card, really) is as straightforward as they come. Slip any card straight into this gimmick while your spectator shuffles away. You can even hold out gimmicked cards or small stacks! Originally designed for Daniel Madison’s Advocate, it helps you keep those hands clean before revealing the thought-of card.
  • Shadow Envelope - A no-nonsense prediction envelope. Hold it up to the light and it’s clear something’s inside! Whether it’s a thought-of word or a freely chosen signed card, when you open it, the contents reveal exactly what the spectator chose. And of course, once it’s out, the envelope is shown completely empty.
  • Enveload - Whip this up in a jiffy for about 10p! It’s your wallet-less alternative for loading sealed envelopes with signed cards, rings, predictions, and more. If it fits in an envelope, you can load it in seconds without breaking the bank on fancy wallets. A lifesaver in a sticky situation!

ROUTINES TAUGHT

Alongside these gimmicks, I’ll guide you through several easy and commercial routines. Here’s what you’ll learn with Gimmick It Yourself:

  • SOS - Full Jazz Style Routine - A complete routine for SOS, where the ring makes a few dramatic disappearances before ending up secured to the Sharpie.
  • Enveload - Birthday Trick - A snazzy Signed Card and Banknote to Envelope trick that packs a kicker finish, perfect for any occasion.
  • Shadow - 'Any Word' Prediction - A streamlined 'any word' prediction routine using the Shadow Envelope, ridiculously easy to perform.
  • Shadow Bluff - A bold, practically un-gimmicked method to create a Shadow Envelope that’s 100% examinable.
  • Bonus - Signed Card in Spectator's Wallet - A straightforward Signed Card to Spectator's Wallet routine that’s a breeze to pull off.
  • Stash - Super Simple 4 Ace Production - The simplest way to produce 4 Aces you can imagine.
  • Stash - Your Card - A cheeky card effect with fire and a surprise finish that’ll leave them gobsmacked.
  • Stash 3 Attempts - Three failed attempts by a spectator to find their card turn out to be three perfect choices. Who knew?

"10/10

- Olivier Boes

"LOVED Off-Balance. This goes straight into my everyday carry, as it doesn't take up any space and is a perfect trick to do in a casual situation.
"Don't really see myself using SOS, as I believe Ring Flight and Interlace have a better impact and are easier to perform, however both of them are quite expensive and this is a great alternative for someone who isn't willing to spend that money.
"Stash: Pretty cool concept that sparked a few ideas in my head, although I believe you need to have a certain style to pull this off, as I don't see myself using it while wearing a suit.
"Shadow Envelope: Hooohoho this was cheeky, and I love it. So many possibilities.
"Enveload: Similar to SOS, I think this is a great alternative for someone who doesn't want to pay big buck for a fancy wallet. Wish I saw this back when I started magic as a kid - I would have used the hell out of it.
"Overall, I think anyone who likes making gimmicks will find something in here and the price makes it a no brainer.
"Great stuff!"

Please note: If you bought my Any Word PDF release yonks ago, there’s a brief description of my first gimmicks for Enveload and Shadow in there. This is a more thorough look with plenty of improvements. Also, the routine taught in Shadow is a streamlined version of Any Word that needs no force. Just being honest with you all.
