Inspired by my late grandfather, affectionately known as "Grandpere" (that’s French for "Grandfather", in case you weren’t paying attention), who was a surgeon, magician, and a bit of a globe-trotter. Back in the 1940s and 50s, surgeons were taught sleight of hand to improve their dexterity – something my Grandpere mastered, using it to charm his way through cultural barriers (and probably to impress the locals).
