The magician shows off a seemingly ordinary wooden box, which he stumbled upon at an antique shop (because who doesn’t love a good rummage?). Upon opening it at home, he discovers a faded picture of Harry Houdini, "The King of Cards." Oddly, this picture wasn’t in the box when he bought it. To make matters spookier, the box has been known to make strange noises at night—like a "slamming" sound, as if Houdini himself is trying to get your attention.
The magician demonstrates these eerie occurrences under the strictest of test conditions (because we all love a good bit of science):
He opens the lid and pulls out a deck of cards and a standard Sharpie Pen (or any pen you fancy, really).
A spectator is invited to select ANY card from the deck and sign its face. The card is then placed ANYWHERE in the deck by the spectator. This is a 100% FREE choice (no pressure, mate).
Next, the spectator mixes the cards and begins to deal them, one by one, into the box. SUDDENLY, the lid of the box SLAMS SHUT, as if it’s saying, “That’s enough, mate!” The magician then asks the spectator to turn over the card they’re holding... it’s the signed card! (Cue the gasps.)
