As any seasoned pro will tell you, performing a headline prediction is one of the BEST ways to snag some serious publicity. Tony Corinda nailed it in 13 Steps To Mentalism when he said, "the headline prediction almost always gets results in getting a story in print, because it is personal to the newspaper." Just ask Paul Romhany—every time he rolls his one-man show into a new city, he gets FREE newspaper exposure by teaming up with a local celebrity and a local paper.
Plus, it’s a killer pitch to corporate clients; you can explain how they’ll be part of the action by receiving something that will take center stage in the show.
In this eBook, Paul spills the beans on his version, which has been a staple in his professional repertoire for over two decades. You’ll get step-by-step instructions and photos that break it down so anyone can set it up.
Effect: The magician sends a sealed envelope to the client a week before the show. When the big night rolls around, the client confirms that it’s still sealed and hasn’t been tampered with. Then, the performer brings out three different daily newspapers, and a spectator gets to pick one. The spectator takes the selected newspaper with the sealed envelope and sits back for the rest of the show. For the grand finale, the magician invites the spectator on stage to reveal the sealed envelope, which contains a letter that not only predicts which newspaper they chose but also forecasts the headlines and certain results from the show.
BONUS - Cris Johnson also shares his favorite Headline Prediction routine called, 'ConFab Headline Prediction.' This is the exact routine he performs in his corporate gigs, using headlines from the daily papers picked by the audience.
Effect: A sealed FedEx envelope is handed to someone at the start of the program. Later, various local newspapers are distributed to audience members. At the right moment, the performer encourages the crowd to select their own headlines, phrases, or even snippets from articles. When the sealed FedEx envelope is opened, it contains another sealed envelope, and inside is an index card that has all the audience-selected material on it—down to the nitty-gritty details. Both versions are practical enough to work in any setting, from cozy gatherings to full-blown stage performances.
ANOTHER BONUS ROUTINE
Finally, Paul Romhany shares a unique take using a prediction rolled up inside a poster tube, which can serve for a headline prediction or any type of prediction effect. He and his wife have used this on cruise ships for the past twelve years, as well as for solo headline prediction routines. This clever method utilizes something most magicians already own, but Paul gives it a fresh spin.
