So, what is iMPRESSION? It’s a brilliantly casual way to harness your smartphone for revealing a thought-of word, number, or picture. You can keep it on you without the hassle of carrying additional props (unless you’re into that sort of thing!). The pen and paper used by the spectator is completely un-gimmicked — meaning you can borrow it with zero fuss.
I’ve fleshed this concept into a full routine because I genuinely believe it’s a gem and a neglected application of mobile tech in the magic and mentalism realm.

Here’s the kicker: every time you perform this, you can capture a killer video of you executing an impossibly clean mind read. You don’t have to do this, but the option is there — perfect for boosting your social media presence. Perform, record a pure mind reading reveal, and post it, tagging the spectators to draw them into your social circles, all while having a laugh. During the tutorial, I’ll share some nifty scripting and pre-show ideas to amp up those videos and make them look even more impossible.
This is what your participant will swear to on the video:
- That they’ve written or drawn something entirely of their own choosing, unseen by anyone (unless they decided to show someone). They even placed it in their own pocket.
- You didn’t set anything up beforehand. They aren’t a stooge and you never suggested any limiting options.
- You didn’t do anything sneaky, and there’s no way you could know what they wrote or drew.
Then, you reveal the exact information they wrote down or drew, cleanly, without them pulling out the paper. It’s how mind reading should look.
