Alright, seasoned magicians, let’s talk about a classic that never gets old: the card through window. You know the deal—the jaw-dropping moment when a spectator’s signed card appears on the other side of a glass window. It’s visually stunning and downright impossible. Sure, many effects throw the audience a lifeline, but not this one. This effect is designed to leave them utterly flabbergasted, and it does its job with ruthless efficiency.
Over the years, countless magicians have attempted to whip up a portable version of this effect. Most of those attempts threw in the towel on some key aspects to make it work. I was fully aware of this challenge as I dove into this project. Then I had a lightbulb moment: a phone could serve as the perfect window! But I set some non-negotiable rules to keep the effect’s “wow” factor intact:
- The card had to be a free selection.
- The card had to be signed.
- The spectator could do the selection and signing if they felt like it.
- The phone used for the trick needs to be borrowed.
- In a world where there’s an app for everything, I refused to add an app to the phone.
- There had to be a strong sensation of the card being inside the phone.
- Everything must be inspectable.
With iProject, I’ve checked off all those boxes and then some. In this download, you’ll learn how to take the corner of a signed card, a business card, a playing card, or even a banknote and pass it through the screen of a mobile phone. This works with most smartphones, so you’re not just stuck with iPhones.
The gimmicks are also designed for future upgrades as new phones hit the market. You’ll need to snag just one extra item for about $4 to make the gimmick, but once you do, it’s a lifelong companion.
Plus, I’ve thrown in two bonus routines that let you break apart your spectators' phones and then restore them right under their noses. I’ve also included an alternative handling for the main routine to give those who might need it a bit of a break.
