The card through window effect is a classic for a reason—it’s utterly bonkers! Picture this: a spectator’s signed card magically appearing on the other side of a glass window. It’s the kind of visual that makes you question your sanity. Most magic effects give the audience a little escape hatch to maintain the illusion, but not this one. This effect is all about leaving them completely stumped (and possibly questioning their life choices).
Over the years, many magicians have attempted to create a portable version of this mind-melter, but let’s be honest—most of those attempts compromised on the magic. I was well aware of this challenge going into the iProject. In a phone, I found the ideal “window,” but I had to set some ground rules to keep the magic intact.
- The card must be a free choice.
- The card needs to be signed.
- The spectator can pick and sign if they fancy.
- The phone used must be borrowed.
- No apps allowed—this is magic, not a tech demo.
- The audience needs to feel that the card is in the phone.
- Everything should be inspectable.
With the iProject, I’ve ticked all those boxes and then some. In this download, you’ll learn how to take the corner of a signed card, a business card, a playing card, or even a banknote and make it pass right through the screen of a mobile phone. Did I mention you can borrow everything? The phone, the card, the cash—everything! This works with most smartphones, so you’re not just limited to iPhones (sorry, Apple fans!).
The gimmicks are also upgradable when new phones hit the market. You’ll need to grab one extra item to make the gimmick, costing around £4, but once it's made, it’ll last you a lifetime (seriously, it’s practically indestructible).
As a bonus, you’ll also get two extra routines that let you smash your spectator’s phones and restore them right in front of their eyes (trust me, it’s as wild as it sounds). Plus, there’s an additional handling for the main routine that’s a bit easier for those just starting out.
