Effect:
Your spectator names a card, and voila—it matches your prediction! The one card you've been keeping tucked away in your wallet, just waiting for this moment.
Set Up:
But hey, don’t sweat it if you haven’t got that wallet. You can easily hide six folded cards in just about any wallet. Just slide two folded cards into a horizontal slot behind a credit card, then stick a third one on top, cleverly concealed behind the leather. Voila! You’re now the proud owner of three hidden cards. Repeat this in another slot and you’re good to go!
Routine:
Set your wallet down on the table like a boss.
"Inside my wallet, I keep my lucky playing card... Now, in a moment, I’m going to have you select a card, but it’ll all be done in your imagination. Please take hold of these."
Mime handing over an invisible deck of cards (yes, they’ll totally get it).
"This deck is invisible, so you’ll need to use your imagination... As you spread through the cards in your mind, notice that the deck is split into two. Hold half in each hand (throw in the word 'half'—it makes it sound like there are more picture cards than there really are; trust me, it works). In your right hand, you’re holding all the picture cards—Jacks, Queens, Kings, and all that jazz... and in your left, the number cards, Aces, Twos, Threes, etc. Now, I’m going to count down from 3 to 1, and at the end, you’ll hand me back either ALL of the picture cards or ALL of the number cards... 3...2...1."
And just like that, they’ll hand you one of the packs. From here, you get to decide how to continue, making them think they’ve selected the picture cards.
"Which ones did you hand to me?"
If they say the picture cards...
"The picture cards, fantastic! I’m going to spread these cards face down on an imaginary table (yes, mime it like a pro)—all the Jacks, Queens, Kings, in a delightful random order. Now, think carefully and pick one that tickles your fancy."
They mime selecting a card.
"Which card have you chosen?"
They say something like Jack of Spades (but let’s be honest, they could name any picture card).
"Out of 52 choices, you’ve landed on the Jack of Spades. Remember when I said I had a lucky playing card?"
Without saying a peep, I casually retrieve the wallet, reach inside, and pull out the folded card—knowing it’s the black Jacks (Spade & Club). I make sure to cover the 'Club' index with my fingers and reveal the Jack of Spades. Cue the applause and confetti!
Now, if they hand me the number cards instead, I simply say...
"So, you’ve kept hold of all the picture cards. Now, please imagine there’s an invisible table in front of you. Spread all the cards face down on it and give them a good mix."
And, as you can probably guess, you just continue as before.
This is a killer routine that I whip out nearly every day.
