FOILED MORTALIS MACHINA PLAYING CARDS
Welcome to Mortalis Machina, where the flesh-and-blood lot meet their mechanical counterparts. This deck is a delightful mash-up of humanity and technology, all elegantly packaged in a set of premium playing cards. Every inch has been crafted with precision, featuring the world’s first fully functional mechanical gear box made entirely from paper (yes, you read that right). The nifty open-and-close mechanism hides within a standard-sized deck, leaving you wondering how it even works.
DESIGNED BY THE PAPER GEAR COMPANY
Dreamed up and meticulously crafted by the wizards at The Paper Gear Company, the Iron (Bronze) and Cobalt (Blue) Editions boast a metallic finish and a paper-engineered gear box that’ll make you do a double take. This isn’t just another deck to shove in your collection—it’s the crown jewel. Just 999 copies of each edition exist, so you’d better act quick (or risk being left in the dust).
STANDARD & GILDED EDITIONS: IRON & COBALT
The gilded editions feature bronze gilding for Iron and silver for Cobalt, inspired by the clash between man and machine (because who doesn’t love a bit of steampunk flair?). Expect lavish layers of Victorian elegance, Baroque curves, and Gothic motifs, all sprinkled with a hint of dark fantasy and mysticism throughout the deck.
The standard deck has the same box but skips the gilding on the cards.
The card designs and the gear box evolved hand in hand, with mechanical cogs and gears subtly woven into the artwork to create a seamless experience.
THE COURTS & JOKERS
Each court card and both jokers have undergone an impressive number of iterations to come to life—seriously, they’ve been through more drafts than a bad sitcom. The result? Characters so intricately detailed, they practically leap off the card.
The jokers cheekily poke fun at the human condition: one’s holding a heart (love, eh?), while the other clutches coins and jewels (wealth, obviously). Both sport traditional Harlequin attire, giving a nod to classic card design while simultaneously flipping it the bird: what we chase for happiness might just bring us trouble.
Jacks [Death Messengers]
We’ve even designed some special pips for this deck (fancy, eh?).
THE FOILED METALLIC GEAR BOX
A triumph of paper engineering, the Mortalis Machina "Gear Box" is our pride and joy. Conceived in the creative cauldron of The Paper Gear Company, this tactile marvel didn’t just happen overnight—it was crafted through a process of trial, error, and more coffee than you can imagine.
Cracking open the foiled gear box is a kinetic experience in itself—gears shift, elements move, and a bit of mechanical magic unfolds before your eyes. The Iron edition is dressed in bronze foil, while the Cobalt shines in silver, adding to the visual appeal. All made from paper, the box is light, durable, and eco-friendly (so you can feel good about indulging).
Despite its intricate design, the box is as compact as a regular tuck box, but engineered with mind-blowing precision. It’s an experience you’ll want to hold, open, and marvel at time and time again.
LIMITED TO 999 COPIES
Thanks to the painstaking craftsmanship involved, each edition—Iron and Cobalt—is limited to just 999 copies. Every gear box is lovingly constructed by hand, making each one a unique collectible (and a bit of a bragging right, if we’re honest).
