When Alan was crafting Novo, he established a few simple rules:
1: It had to be quick and easy to set up. Once you grasp the method behind Novo, you’ll be setting it up in under 5 seconds with paper money. Seriously, you'll have more time to grab a drink.
2: Novo had to be easy to pull off in the real world. With a 180-degree viewing angle, your audience will be none the wiser. Just a simple wave of your hand, and you’re golden.
3: It had to be UNGIMMICKED. That's right, no sneaky props here. You’re only using 2 ungimmicked bills throughout the entire routine. Less is more, right?
4: It had to be visual. Novo is as eye-popping as any bill change on the market. The demo showcases a single unedited shot. Alan himself admits the performance wasn’t perfect, but that just highlights how visual Novo really is.
5: Everything had to be inspectable. The bill at the start is borrowed, and the bill at the end? Totally inspectable. In fact, if you really want to, you can let them keep it. And yes, it only uses two bills, so everything’s up for inspection.
The Novo download is an MP4 video that runs just under 30 minutes, where Alan dives into every detail you need to know to set up and perform Novo. It’s like having a personal masterclass, minus the awkward small talk.
It works with any currency, but fair warning: plastic bills might require a tad more finesse. Alan spent a day working on one of the new plastic Scottish notes, and it worked just fine. As for American bills, you'll need to practice a bit more to nail the move. But hey, Alan has performed this hundreds of times at the Magic Castle using borrowed money, so it’s proven to work just as well. Novo truly does work with all currencies, but some might need a little less practice than others. Alan just wants to keep it real with what you can expect.
