Today, Mickael Chatelain presents his latest marvel, Pen or Pencil. Using a straightforward principle, this strikingly visual effect is sure to completely stump your audience.
This time, we’re ditching the playing cards. All you need are two writing implements: one clear Bic pen with its cap and a good old wooden pencil.
Show the Bic and the pencil to your audience. That’s all you’ve got — a wooden pencil in one hand and a Bic pen in the other. Ask one of your spectators to pick their favourite.
Let’s say they go for the wooden pencil. Pop it into your trouser pocket, leaving just the Bic pen in your grip — nada else.
Take off the cap from the Bic, casually saying you’re about to make it vanish with a mere puff of breath. Don’t believe it? Close your fingers around the cap and blow. When you reveal your hand, it seems your trick has gone belly-up because the cap is still there, chilling in your palm!
But wait — it’s not the cap that was meant to disappear; it’s the Bic pen!
Just picture the look on your audience’s faces when they realise you’re no longer clutching the Bic pen but instead holding the wooden pencil!!!
The Bic has vanished completely — poof! Right before their eyes! With a mere glance at the cap, the Bic has swapped places with the wooden pencil!
It defies belief. You haven’t lifted a finger! Then you can pull the Bic out of your pocket, where you had stashed the wooden pencil moments before.
