Ever fancied having a chinwag with the spirits? Well, you’re in luck! This little gem is right at home in a séance or any quirky performance for a small to medium crowd.
The effect? Simple as pie. You’ll use a coin. Any coin, mind you. Feel free to borrow one and mark it for identification (though I doubt the spirits will fuss about that).
You pop the coin into a small translucent plastic jar and seal it up with a screw-top lid. The jar is as unassuming as it gets, measuring 2" tall with the lid on and a 1 7/8" opening—big enough to fit just about any coin you fancy.
Once the coin is snug in its sealed home, cover the whole affair with a cloth (yep, your choice—get creative!) to conjure up the right vibe for the spirits. Leave it on the table and step back, far enough to give them some privacy.
After a moment, you’ll hear the coin tapping and rapping away inside the jar. Spooky, eh? Once the spirits have had their say, just pop open the jar and return the coin. Everything can be inspected—no funny business here.
This effect is a century old, but trust me, no one’s ever seen… or heard it… like this before. After years of searching, I’ve found the ideal props to make this incredible spirit effect as practical as it gets.
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to… The Phantom Medallion by Mark Strivings!
This astonishing spirit effect can work with any flat metal object—think medallions, car keys, or even that old exotic coin your uncle left you. You can employ it just like its spirit cousins—the spirit bell, the rapping hand, or the haunted skull. Have a chat with the spirits, get them to answer questions, or simply confirm they’ve popped by for a visit.
Got questions? I thought you might! Here are some things to ponder:
The rapping of the coin is 100% under your control at all times.
There are no magnets involved, so don’t worry about ferrous objects.
No electronics are in play either—no batteries to run out on you!
You can genuinely borrow the coin; it is the one in the chamber. No switches, I promise.
You don’t even have to place the coin in the chamber. The spectator can do everything—offer their coin, pop it in, screw the lid on tight, and cover it with a cloth. The spirits will do their thing. When it’s all over, they can even reverse the process—remove the cloth, unscrew the lid, and take their coin back. Everything is 100% examinable.
And while it’s not officially included, if you’re savvy with some cheeky techniques, the spectator’s coin can even turn out bent at the end of the demonstration! Nothing like a bit of spine-chilling magic, eh?
I’ve spent years hunting down the right combination of props to make this work practically, and it’s finally here! You get everything you need to pull off this spooky miracle. Just bring your own object to chat with the spirits (or borrow one, no judgement here) and a cloth to keep it all dark. I prefer a small velvet cloth to block any light—got to let those spirits work their magic!
