It’s been four years since I unleashed the original Pieces at 3am, a book that turned into one of my best-sellers and inspired countless variations from fellow magicians who couldn’t resist borrowing my sleepless musings.
For ages, I’ve been toying with the idea of a second volume, but it took me a while to find the right collection of effects and concepts that lived up to the original vibe. All the gems in the first book emerged in those early hours when I was wrestling with insomnia, the kind of ideas that creep into your mind around 3 a.m. when you’re half-awake and half-crazed.
Well, here we are. After four years of late-night brainstorming and scribbling in a bedside notebook, I’ve sifted through a mountain of after-dark material to bring you only the good stuff—no fluff, just solid effects that have passed my rigorous (and slightly mad) standards.
Four Years. Four New Effects.
In P@3AM:2 you will learn:
- iSO: A coin bend that’s completely isolated. Remember that isolation experiment video I released? Well, this is the polished gem for walk-around gigs. You’ll genuinely borrow a coin, drop it into a borrowed bottle, and let them see it’s still pristine through the glass. Then, with a little swinging magic, the coin transforms right before their eyes into a bent wonder. They can still see it’s the same coin inside, and when you hand them the bottle to keep, their minds will be blown. Boom!
- inDeck: A nifty billet index that can be integrated into a deck of cards or a set of index cards—whatever floats your boat. It’s simple to use and expandable. Your repertoire just got a bit sexier.
- Currency: This one’s a real crowd-pleaser, perfect for close-up or parlor shows. You lay your wallet on the table, claiming you have a prediction in there. Pull out a stack of business cards with random denominations scribbled on them—think £5, £10, £20, £50 if you’re in the UK. A spectator deals through the cards and stops on one. Then another picks a serial number from your little pocket book packed with unique numbers. Open your wallet, and voilà! The bank note matches in both denomination and serial number. Cue the applause!
- After-Dark: A straightforward, organic mentalism routine. You bring out two coins (borrowed or your own), and with your hands behind your back, you let a spectator play mind reader and guess which coin you’re holding. They guess right, not once, but a couple of times! Then, you hand them the coins; they get to guess too, and you nail it again. Easy methods make this an effective worker—you start clean, end clean, and you’re reset faster than you can say “What’s next?”
