So, a bunch of international artists, designers, and studios decided to use playing cards as their canvas for a little futuristic fun. What’s their vision of the world in 100 years? Spoiler alert: it’s wild!
On 1 September 2020, some of the most talented illustrators and graphic designers from every corner of the globe banded together to create possibly the quirkiest deck of playing cards you’ll ever encounter. Seriously, who needs a crystal ball when you have these?
“In these times of high uncertainty (cheers, technology!), and with a pandemic reminding us we can’t even guess what’s happening tomorrow, we wondered: how do today’s artists imagine the world a century from now?”
Each artist got handed a playing card as a blank canvas, and after a month, voilà! They returned with 299 artworks featuring everything from evacuations to other planets, an abundance of robots (like, seriously, loads), pandemics, time travel, fresh air as a luxury item, artificial intelligence running amok, alternative planets, epic battles for race and gender equality, climate change, face masks turned high-tech fashion, and even snakes joining forces with humans to save the day. The Playing Arts team sifted through the madness and selected 54 cards to bring you the new Future Edition deck.
Oh, and did we mention? They kicked off a crowdfunding campaign for printing and production, smashed their funding goal in an hour, and are now over 200% funded. Talk about a success story!
