Playing Arts: Artistic Playing Cards Inspired by The Future
Imagine this: international artists, designers, and studios have turned playing cards into a crystal ball, showcasing their wild ideas of what the world might look like a century from now. (Spoiler alert: it’s a mixed bag of brilliance and bizarre!)
Launched on 1 September 2020, a motley crew of illustrators, graphic designers, and visual artists from all corners of the globe banded together to craft what might just be the most eccentric deck of playing cards ever. (No pressure, right?)
“Today, when we are living in an era of high, perhaps unprecedented, uncertainty (technology is evolving faster than ever, and the current pandemic proves that we can't predict what is going to happen even tomorrow), we were curious: how contemporary artists see the world 100 years from now?”
Each artist was given a playing card as their blank canvas, and a month later, they delivered a staggering 299 visions: evacuations to other planets, aliens, a truckload of robots (seriously, there are loads), pandemics, time travel, fresh air as a luxury, artificial intelligence, alternate worlds, epic battles for race and gender equality, climate change, face masks as the latest fashion statement, epidemics, and snakes and humans teaming up for a better future. (Right, who made that up?) The Playing Arts team sifted through the creative chaos and cherry-picked 54 cards to form the new Future Edition deck.
Oh, and did we mention? Playing Arts is currently raising funds on a crowdfunding platform to get this deck printed and into your hands. The campaign smashed its funding goal in just one hour and is now over 200% funded. (Not too shabby, eh?)
