Chris Wardle has a rare talent for concocting tricks that genuinely impress. His magical gems are always practical, delightfully clever, and sneakily deceptive. With this brilliant new book, Chris showcases a selection of his favourite forces and reveals how to wield them for effects that are both intriguing and a hoot to watch. Ian Rowland would certainly agree!

"QUIRKY FORCES" presents FIFTY cunning and sly forces spread across eight chapters. You’ll find forces involving words, images, cards, numbers, magic squares and grids, simple forcing gimmicks, book tests, and colours, all paired with complete routines for the working magician.

Back in 1932, Theo Annemann compiled a neat little collection of 101 forces he had gathered over the years. A sequel of another 101 forces popped up just shy of two years later. By 1937, Max Holden had fused those two booklets into the classic 202 Methods of Forcing. A legendary work, indeed, filled with both brilliant and some rather impractical ideas. Annemann's book will soon be a century old. But do those forces still pack a punch today? Surprisingly, yes! Yet, there’s always room for something fresh.

In 1994, Lewis Jones brought us his Encyclopedia of Impromptu Card Forces, while Big Blind Media dazzled with The Forces Project video around 2012. Both tackled card forces, but clever magicians could easily adapt those ideas to force something other than cards.

Even with all that, there’s been a glaring need for a collection of smart and unusual forces (cards or not) that can spark intriguing magic or mentalism. Enter Chris Wardle: magician, educator, writer, and your friendly neighbourhood problem-solver!

Chris has assembled a fantastic array of unique forces in his book Quirky Forces. Unlike the previous works mentioned, once Chris explains a force, he then shows how to effectively employ it in an effect (or two). This is crucial, folks. It breathes life into the forces and practically shoves the reader into thinking about their own use of force and method. This elevates Chris' work from the mundane to the extraordinary. It’s the kind of book that compels you to read slowly, soaking in the ideas while pondering their application.

For all these reasons, Quirky Forces is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Michael Breggar, magical creator and regular columnist in 'The Linking Ring'.

"Chris is a treasure trove of inventive, commercial ideas, and this book is no different. I can always tell a good magic book by the amount of page corners I have folded down, and I can hand on heart say I turned more corners of Quirky Forces down than any other book."
- Preston 'Spooky' Nyman, editor Mazel Magazine.

"Quirky Forces: This useful book resonates with the characteristics of Chris Wardle's ongoing creative output; his subtitle lays down his intentions: Fifty sneaky, ingenious forcing methods...There is a wealth of material here, concepts, principles and complete routines, for you to draw upon.'
- Bob Gill, 'The Magic Circular', February 2023.

"...Chris Wardle has done a fantastic job organizing the information. The forces are categorized into sections, and each individual force (which is taught in the context of a routine) begins with a short, italicized description. This is not, it should be noted, a collection of other people's ideas. Every one of these pieces has significant work from Wardle, ranging from entirely original to substantial variations that merit publication. And these are brilliant and practical ideas with tremendous versatility... This is an impressive resource that deserves a spot in your library next to the Annemann classic."
- Nathan Coe Marsh, Genii Magazine, April 2024.
