CHAOS - REALITY - EFFECT
In full view of your audience, the Psychic Entertainer grabs a clear container filled with scrunched-up balls of paper, claiming there are 18 in total, all as blank as your mate’s face after a long night out.
Then, armed with a hefty writing pad and a black marker, he draws a big ol’ cross on the first sheet, tears it off, and tosses it into the box. Rinse and repeat with a second sheet, giving the crowd a front-row seat to the black cross action before it joins its mates in the tub.
Now, the box has 20 scrunched-up balls, and the audience knows two of them are hiding a black cross. After a bit of chit-chat about randomness (because who doesn’t love a bit of chaos?), you draw attention to a large envelope that’s been chilling in view since the start of the show.
With a dramatic flair, you toss the contents of the clear tub into the crowd, letting the paper balls rain down like confetti at a wedding. You ask the nearest audience members to pick one up and check for the elusive black cross. Eighteen people strike out, while two lucky souls find the treasure and are beckoned to the stage.
Let’s say one’s a bloke and the other’s a lady (because why not mix it up?). You explain that the show’s organiser (let’s call him the Company Boss) has a stash of playing cards he’s been guarding closely. He struts on stage, confirms he’s got the decks, and takes a well-deserved bow as the crowd applauds.
Next, the male volunteer gets the plastic bag of cards and dumps them on the table, revealing a colourful array of decks – all different designs and back colours. You invite the bloke to randomly select a deck, and for our example, let’s say he picks a Red Backed Bicycle deck. The lady then chooses any deck, unwraps it from its cellophane, and hands it back to you. You give it a shuffle (because chaos, remember?) and she distributes five cards to random audience members.
They’re told to remember the number or letter on their card and project it to you using their ‘third eye’ (no pressure!). One by one, you nail the guesses, each correct call getting more applause than the last. You trip up on the fourth and promise to revisit them later, then you ace the fifth person. When you finally nail the fourth guess, the applause could lift the roof!
Now, you reveal this was just a warm-up – the real chaos is yet to unfold! The male volunteer gets his deck ready, and the lady gives it a thorough shuffle. They toss the cards out into the audience, maintaining the theme of randomness, and the lucky catcher mixes them up before passing them around. This continues until the cards are a chaotic mess on stage, with some face up and some face down.
Once the cards are gathered, the lady picks up the face-up ones, and you instruct her to fixate on just one card.
THEN WITHOUT ANYTHING BEING WRITTEN DOWN - YOU TELL HER EXACTLY WHICH CARD SHE WAS MERELY THINKING OF AND THE AUDIENCE WILL GO MAD WITH APPLAUSE.
But wait, there’s more! The man opens the envelope to find a second one inside. He digs deeper, revealing a third envelope containing a large folded prediction. You ask for the smaller envelope and tell the lady to read out each prediction as the man checks the cards on the table to confirm if they match.
For example, the predictions could read:
01) THERE WILL BE A TOTAL OF TWELVE CARDS FACE UP
02) ONLY FIVE OF THESE CARDS WILL BE BLACK
03) OF THE BLACK CARDS THERE WILL BE THREE SPADES AND TWO WILL BE CLUBS.
04) THE REMAINING CARDS WILL BE RED AND CONSIST OF THREE DIAMOND CARDS - AND THE REST WILL BE HEARTS.
05) EXCEPT FOR ONE CARD WHICH TONIGHT I FEEL WILL BE A JOKER.
Each statement is confirmed correct, leading to yet another round of applause that could wake the neighbours!
When the applause dies down, the lady opens the smaller envelope, reads its contents aloud, and the audience goes wild as she confirms every detail about the male volunteer.
01) A Man Approx. 5ft Ten in Height wearing Jeans and a striped jumper will end up assisting me on stage - I also feel the names Trevor and Joanne are linked to this man.
At this point, he confirms he’s Trevor and his daughter’s name is Joanne.
