I've been performing Russian roulette routines on stage for the better part of a decade, using everything from spikes to power drills. The basic premise? Avoid the dangerous item among several identical ones – you know the drill.
But I’ve always wanted to create a Russian roulette routine for close-up performances, something that works in a walk-around or table-hopping setting. Most of what I saw looked like magic tricks or left audiences scratching their heads in confusion. I needed something that felt innocent, worked every time, and was made up of items you actually carry around.
With RUSH, you’ll learn how to perform the ultimate close-up Russian roulette using nothing but regular disposable lighters. One by one, your spectator will select three lighters to either light under your palm or ignite something of value (like an envelope stuffed with cash). Spoiler alert: none of the lighters they pick will actually work, and the last one standing is the only one that ignites. Every. Single. Time.
