Now, let’s set the scene: in the Realm of the Elves (remember our first deck?), there are all sorts of marvellous folk, including humans who sail the glittering seas. But watch your back, mate — pirates are lurking!
And let’s not forget about the mysterious forces and bizarre creatures that call the ocean home. Those salty sea dogs have been navigating these waters for centuries, collecting tales from old taverns and the occasional gossip from the town criers. That’s how we stumbled upon the stories of pirates and the mythical beasties of the deep.
Life at sea is perilous, with the thin line between life and death ever-present. Our characters reflect this duality; some are alive, some have already met their fate. This is the essence of the Latin phrase Carpe Diem (seize the day) that adorns the back of our tuck box.
In our deck, Spades and Clubs represent the pirates, while Hearts and Diamonds showcase our valiant sailors.
Spades - Pirates Meet the Tenshidean pirates, lurking in the southeast, just below the enchanting elven forests. Rumour has it they’ve even had cheeky exchanges with the elves, inheriting some of their charm (though we can’t quite verify that). They’re said to hide away on little islands down south, sailing a galleon that could give The Vale Navy a run for their money — possibly a trophy from an epic skirmish. But don’t be fooled; these aren’t your run-of-the-mill scallywags. They only plunder the rich and avoid unnecessary fights, guided by a code of honour. Dashing leaders with sharp swords and quicker wits!

Hearts - Sailors Welcome to The Vale Navy, home to the finest sailors around. It’s a badge of honour to serve on the most refined ship in these waters. The map shows their vessel patrolling the west coast of Ihivale, near the Kraken’s lair. These sailors have braved the toughest challenges and are known for their impeccable attire — they’re the best-dressed on the sea! Their mission: to keep pesky pirates at bay.
Meet Sir Drake, our lieutenant Jack, Lady Celeste the commanding Queen, and Sir James the formidable King captain.
Clubs - Pirates Now, let’s not sugarcoat it: the Duiburn Pirates are the most dangerous lot you’ll encounter. They don’t do prisoners (not that you’d want to meet them anyway). Roaming the northern shores, they’re sworn enemies of The Vale Navy, intent on claiming the northern sea for themselves. Legends say their treasure is hidden near Tenschiden, where the sea dragon lurks. Many have sought it, but few have returned...

Diamonds - Sailors From the depths of Zrienard harbour comes The Zrienard Navy, represented by our Diamonds cards. Less prestigious than The Vale Navy, this crew attracts all sorts — including the half-elf Jack from our previous deck, seeking redemption. Our Queen has worked every tavern in town, now keen to assist the captain for a steadier future. And our seasoned captain? An expert mariner who’s seen it all, rumour has it he lost a hand to a sea monster (but he’s not telling which one).

Aces - Sea Monsters No pirate story would be complete without the legendary sea monsters, would it? Our Aces are dedicated to these fearsome creatures.
The Ace of Spades is none other than The Kraken — a colossal beast that turns ships upside down faster than you can say “man overboard.” This monster has terrorised many sailors, lurking in the northern sea, just waiting for its next meal.
The Ace of Clubs is the elusive Giant Octopus, hiding in the south. If you find yourself in the wrong spot, it’ll happily drag your ship down to Davy Jones’ locker.
The Ace of Hearts features the magnificent Sea Dragon, quick as a flash and stunning to behold. Though he’s generally not interested in humans, those who’ve tried to nab his golden scales have met a grisly end.
And last but not least, the chilling Skeletal Snake monster, our Ace of Clubs. The bane of sailors near Zrienard, it’s rumoured to sink ships in a heartbeat. Where this beast lurks, we can only guess, but let’s hope it stays far away from you!
Jokers Our Jokers are the enchanting Siren and her powerful companion, Triton. Many tales tell of the Siren’s alluring song that leads sailors to doom (so, you know, steer clear). And Triton? A fearsome creature, capable of conjuring storms with a flick of his trident. He’s kept his distance for years, and let’s hope it stays that way!
