The
Secret of the Sea playing cards were lovingly printed by WJPC, whilst the tuck boxes were crafted by the wizards at Boschiero & Newton in Italy.
In the enchanting Realm of the Elves we introduced with our first deck, there are a few other characters sailing the gorgeous seas. But beware! Not all are friendly (spoiler alert: we've got pirates!).
And let’s not forget, the sea is a stage for mysterious forces and creatures that would make your hair stand on end.
For centuries, humans living by the sea have told tales in old taverns, and we’ve gathered all the juicy gossip about pirates and mystical creatures lurking beneath the waves.
With life on the sea being as perilous as it is, the line between life and death is thinner than a sailor's patience. Hence, our characters are depicted in both their living and deceased states — after all, the sea doesn’t do second chances. This is also the essence of the Latin phrase Carpe Diem (seize the day) that graces the back of our tuck box.
The pirates are represented by the Spades and Clubs, whilst the Hearts and Diamonds showcase our brave sailors.
Spades - Pirates Meet the Tenshidean pirates, prowling the southeast corner of the realm, just beneath the lovely elven forests. Rumour has it they’ve had a cheeky chat or two with the elves, perhaps swiping a bit of their looks along the way (but don’t quote us on that). Their lair is said to be on those little islands down south, and their galleon? A stunner, possibly swiped fair and square from The Vale Navy! They’re noble, you see — only robbing the richest and steering clear of needless tiffs. Amazing leaders, striking looks, but wielding swords sharper than their wits!

Hearts - Sailors The Vale Navy is home to the crème de la crème of sailors, where every lad dreams of sailing on the most elegant ship the sea has to offer. As seen on our map, their beauty glides along the western coast of Ihivale, home to the legendary Kraken. These sailors have braved the toughest trials, and their outfits? A sight to behold! They patrol the northern and western coasts, ensuring pirates don’t get too cheeky. True sailors, fierce fighters, and formidable travellers!
Let us introduce Sir Drake, our dapper lieutenant Jack, Lady Celeste, the commandress Queen, and Sir James, the formidable King captain.
Clubs - Pirates The Duiburn Pirates — the absolute nightmare of anyone sailing the seas. Ruthless doesn’t even begin to cover it; they take no prisoners and leave chaos in their wake. Roaming the northern shores of the Elven realm, they’re sworn foes of The Vale Navy, intent on commandeering the northern sea. Legends say they hang around Tenschiden, home to a magnificent sea dragon and a treasure cove that’s claimed many a life. They’re sword-wielding, grog-drinking maniacs with little regard for human life (or personal hygiene, for that matter).
Meet John, our wild Jack, Lady Morgana, the fierce Queen, and Edward, the mad King captain.
Diamonds - Sailors From the depths of Zrienard’s bustling harbour comes The Zrienard Navy, represented by our Diamonds cards. Not quite as prestigious as The Vale Navy, this crew attracts all sorts — the good, the bad, and the outright bizarre. A familiar face makes a return: our half-elf Jack from the previous deck, now trying to redeem himself on this ship. Our Queen has a past as colourful as her outfits, having worked every tavern in town, and now she’s on the ship for a stable future. The captain? An old sea dog, a whale hunter with stories to tell and a hand he lost to a sea monster (or so he says).
Let’s introduce Haemir, our redeemed half-elf mariner Jack, Mary-Ann, the versatile Queen, and Sir Eduard, the wise King.
Aces - Sea Monsters No pirate tale would be complete without sea monsters, right? We’ve got some right terrors swimming about in the Elven seas, and they’re represented by the Aces of our deck.
The Ace of Spades is none other than the dreaded Kraken. With strength to sink a ship in seconds, this beast has terrorised sailors for generations, lurking in the northern sea (where the Vale Navy dares to tread).
Next up, the Ace of Clubs: the Giant Octopus, who prefers the southern waters and has been known to drag unsuspecting ships to a watery grave.
The Ace of Hearts showcases the magnificent Sea Dragon, swift and stunning, though not one to take lightly. He’s been seen between Duiburn and Tenshinden, and if you’re lucky enough to spot him, consider yourself blessed (and don’t get any ideas about skinning him for a coat).
Finally, we have the terrifying Skeletal Snake monster as our Ace of Clubs. This ghastly creature has haunted the waters near Zrienard, sinking ships and leaving sailors trembling. No one knows where it calls home, but I’d wager it’s not a five-star resort!
Jokers Our Jokers? The enchanting Siren and her not-so-jolly pal Triton. Tales of the Siren’s beauty have led many to their doom, luring sailors to their demise with her irresistible song. And Triton? A formidable foe with a trident capable of stirring up storms, he’s a rare sight, but when he does show up, it’s best to steer clear. Sailors have learned that the hard way.
