Transform Your Volunteers into Mind Readers Without Breaking the Bank... (And save a whopping £360.99 compared to pricier alternatives)
Savvy performers know that when you let your audience members shine, everyone walks away impressed.
Mentalists are well aware that routines featuring audience members as the mind readers are the ones that stick in people’s minds for years.
If you’re after a foolproof routine that’ll have your audiences talking long after the show, you need Serendipity in your repertoire.
Here’s the lowdown on the routine:
Two art easels stand at opposite ends of the stage, each sporting a large drawing pad.
The performer kicks things off by telling the audience he's about to conduct a little experiment in serendipity, or as some may say, strange coincidences. He invites an audience member to distribute slips of paper and pencils, asking everyone to jot down simple objects that could be drawn.
Next, he selects two lucky spectators to join him on stage. One is the sender, who’ll choose one of the slips to draw, while the other, the Receiver, will ‘free associate’ on a drawing pad. The performer demonstrates by creating a chaotic scribble on one pad.
After gathering the slips, the sender picks one. Both stand behind their easels, drawing pads facing them. The Receiver is then blindfolded to ensure she doesn’t sneak a peek at the sender’s slip or drawing.
With the Receiver blindfolded, the performer instructs the sender to confirm that her slip contains a drawable item. Both are handed Sharpie markers and told to begin their masterpieces.
Once they’re done, they sign their names at the bottom of their creations.
The Receiver is unblindfolded, and both take centre stage. The performer spins around the sender's easel to reveal her drawing. (Let’s say it’s a motorcycle.)
Then, the Receiver’s easel is turned around, and surprise, her scribbled ‘drawing’ looks remarkably like the sender's object!
Key highlights:
And the cherry on top? It reliably produces the same effect as those more expensive (and often risky) options.
Serendipity embraces straightforward, proven mentalism techniques. If you’re after some flashy, complicated gimmick, look elsewhere.
But if you’re a professional performer, you understand the value of reliable, foolproof methods. When I’m on stage, I’m getting paid—it's how I keep the lights on.
I had a recent chinwag with Paul Romhany, the editor of VANISH magazine and a creative genius. I trust his judgement like no other.
When I shared the ins and outs of Serendipity, he exclaimed, "That's brilliant! I could think of mechanical ways to do the effect, but if I was doing this for real audiences, I'd use yours. It's simple and guaranteed to work every time."
In other words, Paul gets the importance of tried-and-true techniques that deliver results.
Plus, Cody Fisher has tossed in some brilliant suggestions and psychological tricks to elevate Serendipity to a near-miraculous level.
Serendipity is built on a handful of simple concepts, executed with perfect motivation.
And since this is a downloadable gem, you won’t need to shell out for pricey props or secret devices.
You could jet off to a gig a thousand miles away, pop into a Staples or Office Depot, and grab everything you need without breaking a sweat.
Best of all, Serendipity does what a lot of mentalism fails to achieve: it adds a dramatic visual element.
It's straightforward, direct, and easily understood.

The videos cover:
These may not be L&L quality productions, but you can see and hear everything you need without issues.
You’ll also get footage from two performances of Serendipity. One is for an adult audience of 50 at a luncheon whose reactions are priceless!
The second is in front of around 200 middle school students. As I reveal the matching drawing, their astonished “No way!” says it all. So, it plays brilliantly for even the toughest crowds.
Q: Is Serendipity hard to do?
A: Nope. To quote the late, great Harry Anderson, this release is "cocktail proof." It's straightforward enough that you can focus entirely on the performance.
Q: You mentioned a scribbled drawing. Can the Receiver’s drawing match the sender's exactly?
A: Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It can come off as ‘too perfect’. However, if you fancy having the spectator replicate the sender's drawing flawlessly, you can certainly do that.
Q: Are there any limits to what the receiver can draw?
A: Not really. The spectator can essentially replicate anything.
Q: Is the receiver in on it?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: Do you meet with the receiver before the show?
A: No way. I prefer to go into every performance ice-cold. I don’t know who the sender or receiver will be until I’m on stage and pick them myself.
Q: Do you have to put a ridiculous cardboard box on the Receiver's head like in other similar tricks?
A: Not at all. That just undermines your volunteer’s dignity.
