Thomas Riboulet's TANDEM is the kind of trick that makes you question why you even bother with sleight of hand. Seriously, it’s virtually self-working, and yet it packs a punch that’ll leave your audience gasping.
Here’s the deal: you start by presenting two kings to the spectator and casually set them aside like you’re not about to blow their minds. Then, you cut the deck, and here’s where it gets spicy—one half gets shuffled by the spectator, and the other half by you. (Yes, this part is crucial! Don’t mess it up!)
You hand the deck back to the spectator and let them think of a person. They deal one card for each letter of that name. Then, they think of a number, deal that many cards, and cut wherever they fancy. They pick the top card from the cut pile and place it face up on the table. Simple enough, right?
Now, the real fun begins. The spectator takes one of those kings and places it face up on top of the deck, then the other king goes face up at the position of the selected card. They deal the deck into two piles, and the suspense builds until—bam!—there’s only one card left between the kings. And guess what? It’s the matching card they just thought of! All from their own shuffled deck, and they did it all themselves!
But wait, there’s more! The finale is so jaw-droppingly cool that it’ll have your audience questioning their reality. They flip over the remaining cards to find them all BLANK! That’s right, the whole deck is a blank canvas, and they just created magic!
