Basic Performance: The MC strolls on stage with a briefcase—no magician, just the case. He plops it on a writing desk. The lid pops open, and voilà, the magician emerges from the briefcase. Classic!
Basic Vanish: The magician sets the case on the writing desk, a lovely assistant is pushed inside, and off the magician goes with the case. Poof!
Variations: You can adapt this for various productions, briefcase or not. In Romhany's routine, the lid opens, and an eight-foot ladder makes an appearance, with Romhany climbing out like a stage ninja.
At FISM, it vanished not one but TWO people! The briefcase was placed on the floor, a girl was gently pushed inside, then another assistant joined her. The magician scoops up the case and walks off stage—magic at its finest!
Produce or Vanish an assistant away from the table - use the table as a clever hiding spot for your assistant.
Puppetry: This has even been utilized by a puppeteer hiding inside the writing desk, managing a puppet while the performer interacted. Talk about multi-tasking!
