Back in 1999, Black Hat Magic teamed up with Ton Onosaka San to whip up a little something called the Dart Locking Trick to give a nod to the Japanese 100-yen store Daiso. Fast forward 25 years, and this classic has had a facelift and is back for your delightful amusement! (You're welcome.)

Effect

Picture this: our magician pulls out an envelope, claiming it's a prediction, and hands it to a lucky audience member for safekeeping (you know, just in case things go awry). Next up, they whip out a board adorned with a bunch of numbers and plonk a spinning arrow right on top. Cue the excitement as they invite another audience member to give the arrow a good twirl.

Once the arrow stops spinning (don’t worry, it won’t run off), our magician checks the number it’s pointing to and flips over the board, revealing a dazzling array of dice patterns on the back—16 of them, to be precise. After a brief moment of audience anticipation (drumroll, please), they ask the audience to commit the dice pattern to memory. Then, the envelope holder gets to unveil the prediction card, and voilà! The pattern matches perfectly with the one the arrow pointed to! (What are the odds? Oh, wait…)

And just when the crowd thinks it’s all over, if they’re still wanting more (greedy lot, aren’t they?), the magician can invite another audience member to have a go, and surprise, surprise—the prediction still lines up! Who said magic can’t be a bit cheeky?
