At any moment, during any part of your act, you can grab a regular silk of your choice and make it vanish right through your hands (or someone else's if you fancy). Just like that. You can show both sides of your hands, and you can do it as many times as you like, at whatever speed suits your style—quick fire or slow burn, your call. Then, you can pull the silk back, giving it a good show-off, and reveal your hands because, guess what, everything can be examined. And, you can use the silk for other tricks later on — how handy is that?

This beauty works a treat up close, in parlour settings, or on stage. It’s a crowd-pleaser for kids and comedy routines, but don’t let that box you in; you can spin it into darker themes or hypnosis if you’re feeling adventurous.

Everything you need is included and ready to roll: a video detailing the trick’s history and origins in magic literature, handling ideas, presentation tips, a sample silk, the necessary gimmick, and all the accessories. You can use any silk, any size, from a dainty 12 inches (30 cm) to those flashy diamond-cut ones, even up to 40 inches (90 cm) or similar materials like ribbons and wool.

  • Perform anywhere, no strings attached.
  • Customise it for any type of silk or presentation.
  • You start and finish squeaky clean.
  • Use the silk for other effects.
  • Ideal for parlour and stage use.
  • No clothing restrictions—thank goodness!

ORIGINS

Now, Gonzalo Albiñana has been cooking this effect for around fifteen years (yes, he’s had time to perfect it). Seven years back, he began showcasing it to fellow magicians and snagged the Geni D'Or Award for Creativity. Fast forward to 2019, and he waltzed off with the Parlor Magic Trophy at the National Congress of Spain. Now, he's keen to share it with the magic community and see what other clever tricks folks can come up with.

Inspired by legends like Al Bach and Alexander de Cova, The Silk embodies the kind of magic Gonzalo loves—straightforward, stunning to watch, and rich with potential for performers to put their own spin on it.

The whole idea sparked when a kid, in the midst of a silk vanishing sequence, blurted something about a plastic finger (kids, eh?). This sent Gonzalo into a whirlwind of thought. After a fair bit of trial and error and a mash-up of concepts, like the Arrow and Ribbon through Body by Chung Ling Soo and The Silk through the spots card of Alexander de Cova, this beauty took shape. Over the years, it's become the opening act in nearly every one of his shows.
