Over 45 years ago, the now-defunct British company Supreme Magic introduced a gem called "Natty Knitting," based on an idea by Ali Bongo. It featured a brilliantly gimmicked ball of yarn that could be transformed into a miniature sweater quicker than you can say “knit one, purl two.” In a chat with Steve Hart, he shared some fantastic routines he’d been doing with this prop that are as entertaining as they are surprising (and, let's be honest, a bit mind-boggling).

The only hiccup? That special ball of yarn was as rare as a unicorn, and recreating it in the US was riddled with eye-watering costs. But fear not! I've had these beauties manufactured in four vibrant colours overseas, and the quality is top-notch.

Choose from red, yellow, blue, or green — because why not add a splash of colour to your magic?

Included are several routines that cleverly employ one or more of these special yarn balls, so you’re not just getting a prop; you’re getting a ticket to creativity galore.

Here’s how Steve Hart’s routine goes down:

The performer casually drops a ball of yarn into a paper bag (yes, a bag — it’s not just for holding shopping). Then, a selection of cards featuring clothing items (think sock, mitten, bib, sweater, slipper, etc.) are displayed. A spectator chooses a card, and in goes the knitting needles. After a few shakes of the bag (like you’re mixing up a cocktail), out pops a sweater that perfectly matches the selected card. And guess what? The bag is now empty apart from the knitting needles, which can be inspected. Magic, eh?

We’ve also thrown in some extra routines for good measure.

The wool/sweater and written instructions are included, but don't expect knitting needles or cards (you’ll have to sort those yourself).
