Gimmick It Yourself 2 is... you guessed it, the sequel to the infamous original Gimmick It Yourself project!

After the first installment garnered rave reviews and a fair bit of magician envy, I felt it was time to keep the magic rolling. These projects are all about DIY gimmicks that I've crafted and refined to spice up my routines—perfect for casual gigs, the grind of a working magician, or the ever-tricky online performance scene.

In Gimmick It Yourself 2, I’ll walk you through the creation of 4 gimmicks that have helped me turn ordinary moments into visual magic gold, ideal for social media stardom or live performances. Each section gives you the lowdown on the gimmick, a step-by-step guide to make it, and a treasure trove of ideas and complete routines that are ready to rock.

This whole venture was inspired by the good old days of multi-trick releases that were more common when we were all just starting out in this wild world of magic. My goal? To pack way more value into your hands than a single release ever could.

Here’s the scoop on the gimmicks:

EVO

Meet EVO—the Swiss Army knife of gimmicks! It’s practical, versatile, and a blast to use. This little marvel will help you conjure up some stunning and ultra-visual effects, perfect for your social media clips, though it’s just as at home in real-world scenarios.

With the EVO gimmick, you can vanish a coin mid-air or pull off a deceptive card-to-pocket. The beauty? The items you’re vanishing or transforming don’t need to be magnetic—they can be, but they don’t have to be.

The tutorial is packed with clever ideas, from visually switching items to restoring them, pushing objects through a glass table, and even performing PK effects. Almost anything you’d use a PK ring for can be done with EVO. And did I mention it’s practically silent? No more embarrassing "CLUNK" when something disappears!

UTILIGHT

Utilight is your new best friend for performing an ultra-clean coin vanish without breaking a sweat with sleight of hand. Think of it as the Scotch and Soda gimmick’s cooler, more laid-back cousin—no need for two coins here!

Alongside those effortless vanishes, the tutorial shows you how to easily switch regular coins with other items right in front of your audience without raising an eyebrow. This technique comes in handy for routines like a coin bend or subtly swapping in gimmicked coins like those cheeky coin bite props.

And let’s not forget a straightforward, no-fuss coin-in-sugar-packet routine that works like a charm for casual or professional settings. You’ll learn the easy-peasy way to seal a coin inside a sugar packet for this effect.

PHONEY

Phoney is a brainchild I’ve been toying with for ages, and it’s time to bring it to life. This gimmick offers a fresh take on the classic bottle-through-table effect, and let’s face it—everybody’s got phones lying around. No more waiting for fancy dinners to perform this unforgettable close-up illusion.

You’ll learn the classic 'through table' routine plus a fun twist where the phone vanishes and pops up inside a sealed Pringles can (just make sure your phone can actually fit inside!). Plus, I’ve thrown in Foney Phoney, a super quick and ridiculously easy alternative to the main gimmick that you can whip up in no time.

REAL WORKER

The Real Worker is a simple yet effective pull-based gimmick. It’s perfect for any situation, allowing you to vanish and retrieve bills or banknotes without any of those clunky plastic appendages! Easy to make and full of potential, this gimmick comes with routines like signed bills appearing in spectators' wallets, signed bills in oranges, and the classic signed bill in Sharpie—Sharp Money.

The tutorial video clocks in at over 2 hours, packed with my favorite ideas and routines using these gimmicks. Just like the first Gimmick It Yourself, these tricks can effortlessly complement or elevate the routines you’re already performing.
