This is a stage-filling miracle that’s as compact as a travel pillow (and just as useful for a laugh). Guaranteed to deliver a solid ten minutes of jaw-dropping entertainment, it also has the potential for some side-splitting hilarity.
Five married couples are plucked from the audience and brought up to the stage. Each couple receives a large card featuring a key, where they’ll scribble their first name and married surname inside the key’s outline.
These cards are tossed into a pile and mixed like a salad before being dealt into two face-down heaps. The aim? To mix them up so well that the last two cards match in a way that ensures the right husband and wife get to go home together (or at least without an awkward ride on the bus).
As audience members do their utmost to make sure everyone ends up swapping spouses (because why not?), the final two cards turn out to belong to an actual married couple. Cue the applause as they return to the audience, grinning like Cheshire cats.
But wait, there’s more! The other four pairs of cards, which have been randomly matched by various audience members, are revealed one by one. To everyone’s astonishment, each couple is correctly paired up, returning to their seats to raucous cheers. As the last couple takes their bow, you too will bask in the thunderous applause! (And maybe even hide a smirk.)
