Handkerchiefs have been a magician's trusty sidekick since the 1500s, but it wasn't until the mid-1800s that silk handkerchiefs strutted onto the scene as legitimate magical tools. The honour of the first recorded use of silk in magic goes to none other than Robert-Houdin, who dazzled audiences with a vanishing handkerchief routine (and, let’s not forget, he invented the first pull around the same time—multitasking at its finest!). The first full routine featuring these silks was brought to life by de Kolta and immortalised in Professor Hoffman's Later Magic back in 1903. From then on, tricks with silks became a staple in conjurors’ performances (because who doesn’t love a good silk trick?).

Lastly, Bob Read pulls off an ungimmicked, anytime, anywhere miracle by threading a silk straight through the handle of a mug (because why not?).
