This clever creation from Fraser Parker is his take on the classic three cards match-up trick that Chan Canasta made legendary.
Fraser's twist means you can pull off this seemingly impossible trick without leaving it to chance (or hoping that your boldness doesn’t backfire like it did for the great Canasta occasionally).
What’s more, Fraser’s version is rock-solid and practically self-working!
The magic unfolds like this.
Two decks of cards—each with a contrasting colour or design—are laid out in front of a spectator, who gets to pick one. They give it a good overhand shuffle, while you do the same with the remaining deck. Then, you swap decks and shuffle again—because, you know, we wouldn’t want anyone thinking you have a sneaky control over the cards. Next, both of you tuck the decks away under the table or behind your backs and, without peeking, turn over the top three cards and cut the deck. After swapping back, you both lift your face-down decks and slowly reveal whichever cards ended up face up by the other person.
Now here’s the kicker: the spectator gets to decide exactly where to stash their chosen cards on their person. You do the same with your face-up cards. The first card goes in either pocket, the second in the remaining pocket, and the last one can be clutched against their chest or tucked into a breast pocket (because who doesn’t love a touch of dramatic flair?).
It all feels completely above board.
But when the spectator pulls out their cards, they match yours perfectly in both value and suit, and somehow they’ve ended up in exactly the right spots. It’s like magic, but without the smoke and mirrors!
