The trick that left Penn & Teller scratching their heads is back, and it’s more dazzling than ever with the 2025 Edition!
Way back in 2011, during the inaugural season of "Penn & Teller: Fool Us", John Archer pulled off a stunning feat that had the legendary duo completely bamboozled using a cheeky twist on a classic. This signature routine, Blank Night, is not just one of the most entertaining Bank Night effects; it's a masterclass in deception.
You start with five envelopes, explaining that only one contains the top prize of £100 (or whatever tickles your fancy). The other four? Well, they’re a bit of a letdown—just $0 bills, bits of paper, or even empty.
Four audience members take their pick from the envelopes. They open theirs, and surprise, surprise—no jackpot for them. Naturally, the last envelope you’re holding is presumed to have the big bucks. But here’s where Blank Night struts its stuff, and why John snagged that coveted "Fool Us" trophy.
With absolutely no dodgy moves, you open that final envelope to reveal a crisp £100. And not just that—it’s a straight-up stack of notes, fresh out of the envelope, looking pristine (no crumpled mess here). You couldn’t hide a thumb tip or a sneaky body load if you tried.
Trust us, you won’t find a more direct and impossible Bank Night than this.
- Dead easy to perform
- No sleight of hand
- No equivocation or forces
- No thumb tips or body loads
- No envelope switches
- Works with paper or polymer currency
Blank Night is suitable for magicians of any skill level. Each set includes specially crafted envelopes and the cleverly simple gimmick that lets you perform this routine within minutes of ripping open the package. You’ll not only learn John’s full routine, but the envelopes come blank for you to jazz them up however you please.
NOTE: You’ll need to apply a couple of dabs of restickable glue to the gimmick. John and Vanishing Inc. suggest using Zig 2 Way Glue, which you can easily find online or in shops.
