Two classic tomes squished into one fabulously revamped and re-illustrated volume!
This delightful new book features five of Richard's earliest routines, which originally graced two books that have been out of print for ages (and trust me, they’ve always been hot property).
Back in the 1980s, Richard scribbled down a bunch of effects he’d been dazzling audiences with for years. The books quickly garnered rave reviews, with Paul Daniels smashing out The Glass of Water Production on TV and live shows, whilst Karrell Fox wowed crowds with The Borrowed Ring in Balloon Dog. The Linking Finger Rings has been a staple in Richard's performances for nearly half a century, and The Marked Borrowed Coin in Bottle left jaws on the floor at Tannen's Jubilee back in the day. And let’s not forget Harry Lorayne being flabbergasted by The Miracle Flying Cards at that same gig!
Richard has meticulously combed through every single word in these routines. The previous publisher added a few side notes that Richard wasn’t even aware of (classic, right?) until the books hit the shelves. He’s since yanked out that unnecessary fluff and kept only his own wise words. Plus, in true Richard fashion, he’s updated a fair bit of the material to reflect what’s actually on the shelves now and what he’s using today.
Richard initially drew all his own illustrations, but the publisher opted for professional artists at the time (no offence to Richard’s doodles). We roped in our mate and artist, Shaun Robison, to re-create all the illustrations as per Richard’s guidance. A few tweaks were made to clarify those tricky moves that might’ve left you scratching your head in the original books.
In the end, Jim Sisti stitched it all together into one splendid volume with his usual flair and precision. Now, all these remarkable routines are neatly compiled in one place and back on the shelves. This is not a reprint of old material, but a fresh take on classic routines.
Classic Quintet isn’t just for the history buffs; it’s packed with routines you’ll actually want to use. Nothing feels dated here, and every effect can shine as a feature in your show—just like they have for Richard for over 50 years!
