The Escape Artist Show in this volume is a proper rollercoaster of thrilling escapes and perplexing mysteries, all neatly packed into a show you can cart around to any venue for audiences of all sizes (yes, even your mate’s living room). While the spotlight shines on escapes, the variety of plots and methods will keep your spectators on the edge of their seats and wondering if they’ve just stumbled into a magician's convention or a comedy night gone awry.
It kicks off with "Knot Tied," showcasing some impressive knot releases involving nothing more than a couple of lengths of rope. Watch in awe as Dan ties a rope around his wrist quicker than you can blink, then marvel as two lengths of rope, tightly bound together, seem to melt apart before your very eyes. Lastly, the ropes are tied once more, only to spontaneously untie themselves as if Harlan’s got a secret conversation with them. (Spoiler: he doesn’t.)
Next up, "Thumb Cuffs" has Dan’s hands securely fastened by two pairs of thumb cuffs, courtesy of the spectators. Cue the laughter as he not only escapes but also manages to shackle his two helpers together with the same cuffs (who knew magic could be so much fun for everyone?). "Hostage" wraps up this segment with Dan bound up and seated, yet he somehow manages to free himself in a heartbeat. Magic? More like mischief!
Then we dive into "Jacket Off," a classic move where a spectator’s jacket is clearly threaded on some ropes held by two other spectators, only to be released without a scratch. "Free Time" brings a visually stunning escape from metal shackles and padlocks, giving the audience a serious case of déjà vu; and in "Thumb Tie," Dan’s thumbs are expertly tied up with shoelaces by a spectator, yet he somehow manages to pass a solid metal ring through his bonds and up his arms. He even links himself to the spectator's locked arms while his thumbs remain stubbornly tied (cutting them apart at the end is quite the dramatic finish, I must say!).
The true star shines in "Pull Through," where two lengths of ribbon threaded through rings around a volunteer’s waist are apparently pulled right through her by two other unsuspecting spectators. And, of course, no escape artist worth their salt can skip the classic strait jacket escape! "Dire Straights" sees Dan tackling the regulation jacket, with a few cheeky moments thrown in for good measure. The show takes a quieter yet powerful turn with "Escape King," where a signed playing card is released from a ribbon, leaving everyone scratching their heads in disbelief. (And yes, you can give the card and ribbon away as a souvenir of the impossible.)
