Nestled in a rather clever mechanical tuck box that opens and closes with a delightful gear movement, this deck is entirely made from paper and is just the right size for your average playing card. Designed and conceptualised by us at The Paper Gear Company over the last three years, we reckon our Pirates Playing Cards are a worthy addition to any collection (unless you prefer boring cards, in which case, carry on).

THE DESIGN

We’ve harboured a desire to create a pirate-themed deck for yonks, and after a year of hand-drawing the artwork, we believe you’ll find it utterly captivating. Just wait until you see the 4 Aces, the 12 court cards, and the 2 Jokers—each one is a mini masterpiece. We poured almost a year into these designs, adding detail upon detail (no pressure, right?).

GEAR BOX

Now, let’s talk about our fancy "gear box," the pièce de résistance of this project. It’s the first of its kind, developed by our clever crew at The Paper Gear Company, and it’s a marvel. Using our extensive paper engineering know-how, we created a box that’s the same size as a standard tuck box but opens with a mechanical gear function that will leave you gobsmacked.

Creating the box was a challenge, as we had to squeeze in all the art without making it feel cramped (like trying to fit a ship in a bottle). After much brainstorming, we added a splash of colour to the mechanical parts to give it that extra oomph, plus a bit of gold foil stamping for good measure (because why not?).

The result? Absolutely stunning. We’re buzzing about this deck, and we hope you’ll share our excitement so we can get it into mass production and into the hands of those who appreciate a bit of pirate flair. We spent a good year and a half perfecting the mechanics of the box—ensuring it’s solid and won’t fall apart like a dodgy ship in a storm. It had to feel right, so we kept it the size of a standard tuck box. And the attention to detail? Well, we think it’s pretty much out of this world. Plus, did we mention? The entire gear box is made from paper—super environmentally friendly, just like a good pirate should be!
