QUIRKY FORCES - A NEW HARDBACK MAGIC BOOK!

  • FIFTY sneaky, ingenious, offbeat forcing methods from the award-winning Chris Wardle (yes, the one with the clever ideas)
  • Over 200 pages packed with more than 40 graphics (photographs/images/tables, because visuals are key)
  • With a foreword by Ian Rowland (who knows a thing or two about magic)

Chris Wardle has a knack for crafting tricks that are, quite frankly, a bit brilliant. His magical inventions are practical, satisfyingly clever, and slyly deceptive (like a rabbit in a waistcoat). In this splendid new book, Chris showcases a smorgasbord of his favourite forces, revealing how to use them to create effects that are as mystifying as they are entertaining.

"QUIRKY FORCES" serves up FIFTY crafty and cunning forces spread across eight chapters, covering everything from words, images, and cards to numbers, magic squares, and colours, plus complete routines for the working magician (and the not-so-working ones too).

Back in 1932, Theo Annemann published a collection of 101 forces he had meticulously gathered over the years. Fast forward two years, and another 101 forces hit the shelves. By 1937, Max Holden combined these two gems into the classic 202 Methods of Forcing. A staple in the magic world — some brilliant, some a bit dodgy. But let’s be honest, we need fresh ideas, don't we?

Lewis Jones gave us his Encyclopedia of Impromptu Card Forces in 1994, while Big Blind Media rolled out The Forces Project around 2012, focusing mainly on card forces (snooze, right?). But what about a collection of quirky forces that can spice up your magic or mentalism effects? Enter Chris Wardle — magician, educator, and all-around genius!

In Quirky Forces, Chris has compiled a whopping collection of unique and unusual forces. Unlike those previous tomes, Chris doesn’t just drop the forces on you and run. He dives in, showing how to best use them in actual effects (because what good is a force if you don’t know how to wield it?). This vital touch breathes life into the forces and, dare I say, compels the reader to think creatively about their own applications. You’ll find yourself slowly savouring each idea — a delightful read, indeed.

This book is an absolute must for any self-respecting magician or mentalist looking to up their game.

For all these reasons, Quirky Forces comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Michael Breggar, magical creator and regular columnist in 'The Linking Ring'.

"Chris is a treasure trove of inventive, commercial ideas, and this book is no different. I can always tell a good magic book by the amount of page corners I have folded down, and I can hand on heart say I turned more corners of Quirky Forces down than any other book."
- Preston 'Spooky' Nyman, editor Mazel Magazine.

"Quirky Forces: This useful book resonates with the characteristics of Chris Wardle's ongoing creative output; his subtitle lays down his intentions: Fifty sneaky, ingenious forcing methods...There is a wealth of material here, concepts, principles and complete routines, for you to draw upon.'
- Bob Gill, 'The Magic Circular', February 2023.

"...Chris Wardle has done a fantastic job organizing the information. The forces are categorized into sections, and each individual force (which is taught in the context of a routine) begins with a short, italicized description. This is not, it should be noted, a collection of other people's ideas. Every one of these pieces has significant work from Wardle, ranging from entirely original to substantial variations that merit publication. And these are brilliant and practical ideas with tremendous versatility... This is an impressive resource that deserves a spot in your library next to the Annemann classic."
- Nathan Coe Marsh, Genii Magazine, April 2024.
