Six-Shooter is a nifty little tome packed with SIX fresh effects from the mind of Richard Osterlind. Each routine is a guaranteed hit — no dud shots here, promise!
Hands Off is a jaw-dropper of a card effect where you don’t even need to touch the deck. Picture this: a spectator cuts the deck and peeks at the top card. They pop it back in, and you, the mentalist, standing across the room, confidently announce where that card is hiding! The spectator counts down to the spot, and just before flipping it over, you name the card too! Both the card and the position? Spot on! All from a distance!
3SP is a dazzling three-phase act featuring two completely ordinary decks of ESP cards (yes, really). In the first phase, you lay down a prediction card, and the spectator deals from their deck, stopping whenever they fancy. Surprise, surprise — your prediction matches their card! In phase two, another spectator picks a card, someone else calls out a number from 1 to 25, and miraculously, your deck reveals the same card! Finally, you place three cards on the table, while the spectator tucks the other deck away. They draw three cards, and lo and behold, they all match your predictions! This could easily be a whole show on its own, but each effect is a knockout by itself.
Wanted: Dead or Alive is Richard’s streamlined take on Annemann’s classic Dead or Alive. Five business cards are handed out — one person writes a name of someone who’s passed on, while the others jot down living names. The cards get shuffled and tucked into a little white envelope. One by one, you reveal the cards as living names — and you’re spot on every time. To finish, you dramatically declare you’re holding the dead name and pass it over, still face down. You’re correct, and then you essentially drop the mic by revealing the name.
Poor Man's Book Test is anything but poor. Imagine strolling down the street when someone hands you their book. They get to freely choose a page and remember the first word on it. You concentrate and — bingo — you name the word! It’s that straightforward, and the book goes back unscathed.
Almost Real Prediction is a classic Jack London effect, and Richard shows you how to elevate it to a masterpiece. The stagecraft and subtleties taught in this lesson will serve you well in countless other tricks. In this one, Richard shows why the classics in Mentalism are still the bee's knees!
Perfected Add-a-Number is a refreshingly straightforward handling of this age-old mystery. You show a large envelope and set it aside. Picking up a pad, you have three or four people shout out three-digit numbers, which you jot down in plain view. The numbers are added up, and a total is reached. The pad goes aside, and you pick up the envelope. As you unfold it one fold at a time, it reads, "I predict / the total / will be / 4781!" Naturally, that’s the right number! The audience sees the numbers the whole time and can verify they called them out. And remember, the prediction is folded until the very last reveal! This is just one clever way to utilise the gimmick, which can be adapted for all sorts of prediction effects!
Every single effect in this book is a winner, and though they require a bit of showmanship, they’re easy to pull off!
