Marc Arthur has taken the classic appearing hole effect and given it a cheeky twist with his debut release, (W)Hole Deck. In his routine, a stick melts through a spectator's chosen card, leaving a delightful hole they can literally poke their finger through (don’t worry, it’s not as painful as it sounds). But wait, there’s more! The hole then jumps from the selected card to the rest of the pack, which, by the way, is completely examinable. Resetting in a blink, this can be performed with any card. Seriously, it's been audience-tested and is 100% worker-friendly (that's magic jargon for “it actually works”).
Now let’s talk about the eye-popping routine, Hollow (W)Hole. Picture this: a boxed pack of cards dangling round a spectator's neck, thanks to a ribbon threaded through a hole in the whole pack (yes, I’m saying 'whole' on purpose). A card is selected from this bound deck, returned to its box, and then – BAM! – a balloon is inflated and POP! The spectator’s chosen card appears from the box, still with its hole intact (what a show-off).
In (CH)Angel, a card is selected, signed, returned to the deck, and handed over to a spectator (because we totally trust them, right?). An off-colour "angel" piece is shown on both sides. With just a flick, the angel doesn’t just change colour, it pulls a fast one and changes places. The angel is revealed to be from the spectator's selected card! They can even spread the deck themselves and, to their astonishment, find that cheeky angel piece snugly "inside" their card.
