Introducing Yogi X RAY by Fraser Parker
212-page Crown Quarto hardback
Welcome to the lush pages of this stunning 212-page Crown Quarto hardback book, a true coffee table showstopper with a brilliant full-colour artwork matte cover and delightful cream pages. Here, I invite you to tiptoe into the hushed corners where card magic transforms from mere trickery into something that feels downright real. Within these pages, I’ll share the clever methods that have shaped my work over the years. This isn’t just a collection of effects; it’s a peek inside my brain, showcasing how I create and aim to nudge our art form forward.
In Yogi, my latest triumph, you’ll discover my handling of the now-famous X-ray plot delivered with the kind of clarity that’ll make you question reality (in a good way). Picture this: a deck is shuffled and handed to your spectator. They cut wherever they fancy, flip over their chosen card, finish the cut, and bury their selection. Meanwhile, I’m looking the other way, maybe even checking my phone (just kidding, focus!). The deck goes back in its box, and I could even be out of the room entirely. Yet, somehow, I know exactly which card they flipped and precisely where it sits in the deck. It’s like I’ve got x-ray vision—clean, clear, and utterly baffling.
This isn’t achieved with any sneaky deck modifications or a barrage of questions. Nope, you just *know*. The spectator can slice the deck anywhere and reveal any card, and you’ll still nail the reveal every single time. That’s the main act, but hold onto your hats, because we’re just getting started. You’ll also learn to divine a genuinely thought-of card after the spectator spreads the deck and fixates on one. Plus, there’s the delightful twist where a second spectator, after getting the deck, can deal down purely by instinct and happen to land on the first spectator’s thought-of card. What are the odds? (Pretty good if you know what you’re doing, I reckon.)
Along the way, I’ll walk you through a pseudo-memory demonstration with several phases, sprinkle in some subtle structural ideas, and unveil the latest theatrical tweaks to my Card At Any Number effect, Azlan. Now, the spectator mentally chooses the card in play, and there’s even a handling where they pick both the card and the number. More than just a single routine, you’ll learn a complete system—an approach that weaves through these pages, transforming a single deck into a multi-effect powerhouse. It’s a method of conjuring miracles that I’ve poured my heart into articulating in this grand work.
I’m chuffed to add this book to my recent contributions. Now it can be yours.
